September 13, 2005
Jeffrey Miller, CEO of Weeks Gas and the Barbecue Superstore, will present a check for $25,000 to the United Way’s Operation Helping Hands, benefiting hurricane relief. The check presentation will occur at Hialeah Elementary where Mr. Miller and Weeks Gas employees volunteer and mentor.
Mr. Miller has included the Hialeah Elementary School PASS partnership and the Council who administers the PASS program as benefactors. The $25,000 comes from the proceeds of sales at a recent home show and contributions from teachers at the school.
As the PASS CEO, Mr. Miller works with Principal Carolina Naveiras on school improvement efforts, infusing business strategies into their team work. He has contributed $200,000 to the school for PASS and enhancements.
PASS, Council and United Way representatives will be at the event where Mr. Miller and employees will present the check. He said, “We are a family—Weeks Gas, the Barbeque Superstore, PASS and the Council. We were all deeply touched by the hurricane devastation that displaced families and children and wanted to help—one family to another--especially the children.” At Mr. Miller’s request, teachers at the school have also worked with their students to help them understand (age appropriate) the importance of assisting those in need and the impact of generosity, no matter how small the offering.
